the withdrawal of the United States of America from the JCPOA
The Iranian nuclear program has been a source of distress for the international community for over a decade. The signing of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action by Iran and the P5+1 helped alleviate this distress. However, the withdrawal of the United States of America put the future of this agreement in jeopardy. The Historic Security Council in OHMUN is set on the 9th of May, 2018, the day after Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America, announced the withdrawal of the USA from the JCPOA. The HSC will be a semi-crisis committee where delegates will need to combine an intricate knowledge of international law with their ability to think on the spot and come up with detailed and comprehensive solutions to a variety of crises. In the HSC, delegates will have the responsibility to steer the world through this uncertain time. Through their directives, the delegates will charter the course of committee and attempt to maintain international peace and security in the face of rising diplomatic tension. The Executive Board looks forward to meeting you on the 20th and 21st of June. Good luck!
